On 26th January, the Kong Chian Library Club organised a Chinese Riddle Guessing Game in lieu with the Chinese New Year festivities.

The rationale for such a friendly competition was to ignite the passion for Chinese Culture within the Lower Secondary students.

Despite the intense competition, all the participants walked away with a better knowledge of Chinese vocabulary,  as well as the structure and origin of Chinese characters.

As an organiser for this event, I would like to input some suggestions and comments for this. The game’s rule is to match phrases of the same meaning and check at either one of the two counters managed by student-librarians to find out if it is correct and I found this act very time-consuming for the participants. Thus, I would like to suggest having a new rule: Allowing participants to keep the phrases at hand, before we tally everything at the end but having a time limit. Overall, I felt that the event was successful and I hope that more people from the student population will come forth to participate in these events.
