Related to the previous post, as a video response to the original Old Spice commercial that launched Isaiah Mustafa’s career, Harold B. Lee Library at Brigham Young University has posted the following video about the importance of studying in the library:

Bravo! This video does an incredible job of parodying the original, whilst also showing an incredible amount of creativity and humour. Plus, it’s true: studying at the library helps you to become a better learner.

I agree with the video about the importance of studying especially in the library. The library is built and designated for us to study as it’s a quiet environment and we can study without much distraction. There are also plenty of books that we can refer to as we study to give us a better understanding.Last of all,the library is cooling and it gives us a comfortable environment to study.

Studying in the library is indeed a good idea as the library is quiet, and provides us with a conducive place for us to study in. It can help in the efficiency of learning things in a nice, quiet, and comfortable place for undisturbed learning.

I also like studying in the library as library is indeed a very quiet and serene place where you can study very efficiently. There are also plenty of resources in the library and whatever things that we do not understand we can check it out any time. However, we must be considerate when studying in the library and not talk loudly or else we might disturb others.

I agree with this video in that the library is the best place to study. In my view, I believe the the library is one of the most conducive places to study. It is usually very quiet and allows me to focus solely on the task at hand. Moreover, when I require any help, I can always find the many resources available which helps me greatly in completing my work.

I agree partially about the fact that libraries are conducive places to study. However, if people are there to disrupt the peace by making noise in the library, the library would not be that a conducive place. Everyone has to play a great role in keeping our library to be a conducive environment for studying. Libraries are usually air-conditioned and serene. The library is a place where people can quietly read or do their own stuff and not to play catching or chatter loudly in.

I think this video is parodying the narcissistic nature of the Old Spice Guy, as in his video he praised himself that he was handsome. While in this video, the New Spice Guy is constantly emphasising on how good his grades are, which is self-praise, embodying the narcissistic nature of the Old Spice Guy.
I agree on the point that libraries are a good place for studying. There is an abundance of resources there. There are general texts for the layman, technical texts for the professional and fiction literature for reading pleasure. The library is also a generally quiet area which contributes to your focus, letting you study better.

Studying in a library is very relaxing. One can enjoy the air conditioner there and read or do homework quietly. There would not be any distradction and few peole would pass by. There would no be very loud noises and there would e resources there to be used as reference. I feel that it is a very good environment to be studying in.

  • 8. Kean Patrick Murphy 1O4  |  August 14, 2010 at 12:47 pm

I feel that the man in the video is trying to convince us that studying in the library is the best option. First, he makes people think that their grades are inferior to his, but they can be better if they just started studying like him, which he does in the library. He also quotes statistics and tells people that in the library you have “access to bucket-loads of library databases”. Finally, the way he talks; fast, loud, forceful and engaging, hooks the audience and firmly drills the idea into their heads.

  • 9. Kaye Tan 1A309  |  August 15, 2010 at 5:10 pm

I find the library a conducive environment for studying. There is free air-con, free resources that can help during study. It is also a quiet and peaceful place, free from distractions like the computer or your video game.

  • 10. Benjamin Ung 104 (29)  |  August 17, 2010 at 1:57 pm

Definately, Libraries are one of the best place to study as it it very peaceful and quiet there. I study at both our school library and national libraries sometimes. There are also books that you can read there while enjoying the cooling aircon, and their are also non-fiction books that give us a lot of information on the particular subject.Hence, if your trying to focus, when your doing homework, or maybe even studying for an exam, just head down to the library and you might even be like the guy in the video.A+

The video is very correct! I agree that studying in the library can help people become better learners. Where else can you find a great collection of books, in addition the atmosphere is smooth and quiet. It is a suitable place for a inspired learner, left alone being undisturbed…

  • 12. Chan Chia Ler  |  August 18, 2010 at 7:09 pm

I agree with the video that studying in the library is essential. The library provide a large amount and a great variety of books for people to learn. It is very quiet in the library, so a person can concentrate on studying without being disturbed. Lastly, going to the library and borrowing books is free, so it does not cost money to study in a library, which makes studying in the library great.

  • 13. Yeo Eng Chow  |  August 18, 2010 at 7:14 pm

This video definitely explains why the library is a good place to study. It provides you with almost all the information you would need. It has food ready for you if you are hungry from studying. You have a quiet environment to study not like most of the other places where there would always be something to bother you. The library is indeed a place which helps you learn better.

  • 14. Koh Kah Xuan  |  August 18, 2010 at 9:00 pm

I agree with this as it is a place quiet enough to focus. We can strudy without interuptions, and also, it is a comfortabke environment. Whenever we have doubts, there will be resources ready for us at no cost. There will not be a problem in finding the books as they are normally arranged nicely.

  • 15. Shie Yu Hao  |  August 18, 2010 at 9:14 pm

Well, I agree totally. For me, in order to concentrate on my work, I will need to have a quiet place to study. Since it is a comfortable place with air-cons, I can have a relaxing mind so as to do better for every assignment given to me. Furthermore, any queries, clarify with the books surrounding me! What an efficient place for work!

  • 16. Gerald Tan  |  August 18, 2010 at 9:15 pm

The video is definitely interesting and gives us reasons why studying in a library is good. I agree that the library can be a quiet and very nice place to stay focused and do work. The library also provides us with important information that we might find useful while we are doing our work. Some library provides food and drinks which I feel that is convenient as we might feel thirsty of hungry after a few hours of work. Although the library is usually thought of as a quiet and peaceful place to do work, there are times where there will be inconsiderate people who make noise in the library disturbing the people who are trying to do their work. In conclusion I feel that the library is a place full of resources and a great place to be if you are looking for peace and quiet, but of course with the exception that there are people who distract you occasionally.

  • 17. Fun Xue Yao 1P4 (5)  |  August 18, 2010 at 9:37 pm

I agree that the library is a very good place to study other than in your study room.By studying in the library, should you have any doubts, you can consult the books around you for more information. While in the library, you can also prevent the temptations of using the computer for games or watching the television programmes, which may disrupt our study. I also feel that the library is a very quiet place to study as the surrounding is very quiet. In total I feel that the library is truly a heaven for people who love to study and I belive that studying in the library a more effective than studying at home.

  • 18. Benjamin Chua 1P4 (4)  |  August 18, 2010 at 10:54 pm

I totally agree that studying in the library is one of the best place to study in and it is definitely much better than studying at home. Library is a comfortable environment to study in as it provides chairs and tables, there is also air-condition in the library. Whenever we need to refer to any books or dictionary, we can always borrow them at the library. When we want to take a break, we can borrow some comics to read.

The HCI library is definitely one of the best place in Hwa Chong to study. It has a huge variety of books for reference, and is a very cooling place to study in. Especially, when one is tired after a day of study, one can rest at the comfortable chair and grab a book he enjoys to read. Lastly, there is a television for students to watch Channel News Asia and understand the news around the world, increasing one’s knowledge of the current affairs.

  • 20. Yeo Zhen Ning 1P4 (33)  |  August 19, 2010 at 5:36 pm

The video was great and i agree that the library is a good place to study as the library is a quiet place so no one will will disturb you when you are studying. I agree with the blog post regarding the importance of studying in library. I think the study in library is very effective and is much better than studying in anywhere else. It is because that the library is very quiet, so it is a perfect environment to concentrate on your studies. And also, there are many people study in the library, so when you are studying in the library, you will feel the atmosphere of studying which makes you study more effectively.

  • 22. Jaron Cheung, 1P402  |  August 19, 2010 at 8:56 pm

I feel that the person in the video is persuading us to study in the library. I do agree with it. Studying in a library is a good option as it is a beautifully quiet place with no distractions and one can study peacefully and concentrate on thier work. Besides the quiet environment, the library is also a relaxed place and has lots of books for ur to refer to when we are stuck at a problem. All in all, I feel that the library, is the best place to study in.

  • 23. Yu Weiran 1A333  |  August 19, 2010 at 9:13 pm

Library is a very ideal place to study. It is quiet, cool and there is a lot of books available to be borrowed if there is anything that we don’t understand or don’t know. Laptops are also available to be borrowed. I feel that we should study quietly in the good study environment in the library, as not to disturb others. We should not play computer games using the laptops of the library.

  • 24. Ryan Tan Yi Wei (1O4/22)  |  August 19, 2010 at 10:35 pm

I agree with what he says that a library is a extremely good place to study. The enviroment is very quiet and peaceful. It is very comfortable and relaxing. This allow you to be more efficent to study our exams. The Library also has books for your refrence, and HCi Library has a TV so that we are able to watch the news and be updated with the current affairs in life. There is also no distraction, unlike the video where the place you are affect what you are doing.

  • 25. Ng Yong Hong 1A3 (23)  |  August 19, 2010 at 11:30 pm

I share the same views as the video. Library is indeed a conducive place for learning as it has all the information one will need, is comfortable(air-conditioned & sofas and chairs) and most importantly, is QUIET! Nothing can distract one from his/her study. One is also able to focus on his study and hence, study effectively.

  • 26. Tan Yu Xiang(27) 1O4  |  August 22, 2010 at 3:29 pm

I totally agree with the video except for the last part. I agree with how the library could help us study better as compared to our homes. I agree that the library is a nice, quiet place for people to study in. I agree that the library have a lot of resources for us to study and when we are hungry, we could visit the cafeteria for some food. What i do not agree is the last portion where it says that anything is possible in a library. We are not allowed to make noise in the library and we are not allowed to play in the library. After watching this video, i feel that i am more encouraged to study in the library.

  • 27. Yang Xinyi  |  August 23, 2010 at 2:47 pm

I truely agree with this video. A library is indeed a good place to study, as it is quiet and relaxing (air cons) and allows you to concentrate. A library is like a sanctruary for students to study and read. However, everyone has to play a part in mantaining this peaceful atmosphere in the library. Sometimes, a little noise in a quiet environment is even more distracting as compared to that of a noisy environment. By mantaining silence, those people who needs the extra percent of concentration would be able to study very effectively.

  • 28. Tan Yan Shen  |  August 26, 2010 at 8:48 pm

I agree that the library is the best place to study. There is minimum distraction there, and it is quiet. The librarians there are very helpful too, as they would help you find the books you need

  • 29. Kwek Zheng Hua  |  August 26, 2010 at 11:02 pm

I do agree that a typical library is a very good place to study. A normal library is quiet and presents little distractions, which would help you store more knowledge in your brain. The library is also a more comfortable place to study with air-conditioning so that the heat won’t distract you.
